A folyadékkristályos kijelzők (LCD-k) folyadékkristályokat használnak a fény áthaladásának szabályozására és képek létrehozására. Energiahatékonyságuk, éles képük és hosszú élettartamuk miatt széles körben használják okostelefonokban, táblagépekben, TV-kben, autókijelzőkben és ipari képernyőkön.Az organikus elektrolumineszcens (EL) kijelzők (OLED) viszont közvetlenül szerves anyagokból állítják elő a fényt, így nincs szükség háttérvilágításra. Ez a technológia élénk színeket, mélyebb feketét, rugalmasságot és vékonyabb, könnyű képernyőket tesz lehetővé, így ideális a csúcskategóriás tévékhez, összecsukható eszközökhöz és hordható technológiához.
